Jamal (WT: Samet) is a 30 minute long fictional coming-of age drama written and directed by Hassan Atia.
Jamal (Leo Kebernik) has just finished school and is now confronted with a difficult decision: Being a single mum, his arabic mother Nadia (Basma Saoudi) expects him to get an "ordinary" job as quickly as possible to ensure financial stability for the family. His friends (Paolo Möller and Alvaro Rentz) on the other hand live a hedonistic life with alcohol, drugs, and little to no plans for the future.
Given these circumstances, Jamal has learned to hide his true passion: Music - which only gets awaken once he meets new neighbour and saxophonist Victoria (Felina Zenner). Her inspiration leads to an inner conflict, almost tearing Jamal apart: Does he do what's expected of him, takes care of his family, and stay with his friends, or does he pursue what actually makes him happy?
